The intervention in 1999 was the consequence of geopolitical calculations; moral concerns played a secondary role.

Kosovo’s importance to the West has always been primarily based on strategic interests rather than solidarity; as Western interests have changed so too has Kosovo’s importance.

The people of Kosovo cannot fall into the trap of assuming that Western leaders have their best interests at heart when those leaders instruct Kosovo to make concessions to Serbia.
